Randy and Miriam’s Wedding
Randy and Miriam’s Wedding
August 2, 2008: Rand and Mir’s wedding was fabulous!
rooms and from the wedding venue and lent, for many of us, a wish for world peace to the entire weekend.
Part of the preparations included a trip to a near-by hair and nail salon for Aunt Lanie, Nanette, Eve, and me. What fun that was! It rained while we were inside and Muffin came by with umbrellas to pick us up.
Lynn did my make-up; I wasn’t very cooperative – after all make-up isn’t something I do most days. Eve helped me dress; having her as my personal assistant that day was great.
The wedding venue
Water’s Edge in Long Island City is a two-story restaurant with big picture windows overlooking the Manhattan Skyline. On both levels you can go out onto a long balcony to enjoy the river, the sunshine, and the view.
The restaurant owns a ferry boat that runs to the event and from the event, originating at the 35th Street Pier in Manhattan. Miriam and Randy had arranged for a limo service to shuttle guests from
the band that played later in the evening. During the wait for the ceremony to start, Jackson Juers, age 5, asked any number of times, “Nanette, when are you going to play violin? I want to hear you play the violin. Nanette, can you play the violin now?” What joy that he was so excited about the violin, the music, and his friend/cousin Ben’s mom playing.
The ceremony was conducted by Jeffrey Dekro, a long-term family friend. He entered first followed by Miriam’s two grandmothers. Then came the pairs of attendants followed by Derek, the Best Man, and his sons, Benjamin and Alexander carrying ring pillows. They were adorable in their little tuxedos! When they were lining up, Rand, Pops and me were right behind them. Little Alex really, really wanted to hold Uncle Randy’s hand instead of his daddy’s. It was hard to get him to pay attention. Rand accompanied Scott and me down the aisle to the front.
Then came Erica, Miriam’s sister, Maid of Honor, and then the gorgeous bride and her parents Lucy and Boris.
The attendants were in black with lime green accents in the flowers and on the Maid of Honor’s dress. The lime green accents were carried through the flowers on the aisle chairs and on the tables later in the evening.
Where we stayed
The Tudor Hotel on 42nd Street at 2nd Avenue, is an intimate hotel with charming rooms (some with balconies) and views of Tudor City and the East River. It often hosts international visitors due to its proximity to the United Nations at 43rd and 1st Avenue.
The UN building was visible from many
the hotel to the ferry at the beginning of the evening and at the end.
The wedding itself took place on the upstairs level of the Water’s Edge. The Chuppah was set up with rows of chairs facing it. Music was provided by Nanette (our daughter-in-law who is a professional violinist) and two members of
